Organizing Your Bedroom into a Tranquil Space
Organizing your bedroom is one of the best things you can do for yourself. If you think about it, we spend a third of our lives there. Your bedroom can facilitate a relaxing end of your day and a rejuvenating beginning for the next! Create your own tranquil space to nourish your soul.
Bedroom Activities
Bedrooms tend to be the storage area of exercise machines, hobbies, computer, TV etc. Take time to transfer these activities to another area of the house. Get creative, and leave the bedroom for only a small number of activities such as sleeping, reading, relaxing, and romance.
If you can't let go of your TV or computer in the bedroom just yet, at least place it in an armoire or behind closed doors or curtains. This will create the peaceful environment you are looking for when it is time for bed.
Storage Solutions for Organizing Your Bedroom
Think vertical with dressers and shelving. This will give you more open area and make the room seem larger. You may also consider moving a dresser into the closet itself.
As a last resort, use containers with wheels for storage under the bed. The goal should be to have nothing under the bed so your energy is not drained during the night.
Remove most items off dresser tops by placing framed pictures on the wall. The dresser tops can be used to prepare for your day instead.
Bedroom Clutter
The easiest change you can make in organizing your bedroom is removing the bedroom clutter. Here are some suggestions of what to look for.
- piles of clothing
- piles of unread books
- used tissues
- full waste bins
- mobile phones
- cosmetics
- notebooks and work
- TV's and computers
- kid's toys
- art work not conducive to relaxing
Organizing Your Bedroom with Clutter Free Decorating
- To make a dramatic difference, remove all items and replace only what you really want. The less furniture the better.
- Keep accessories and patterns simple. Limit the number of pillows and stuffed animals, etc. They require too much time to arrange and too many accessories make the room look cluttered.
- Paint your walls to create an uncluttered feel: soft blues, soft greens, soft yellows, taupe, and beige. Stay away from bright or deep reds, orange, plum and purple.
- Make your bed each morning. For the longest time I didn't make my bed because I thought it was a waste of time. What was the point? I was just going to get in it again in a few hours. Recently I started making my bed and it has made a significant difference. By simply making my bed, I transition from night to day and consciously respect my bedroom. It feels so good to get into a bed that is made allowing for another nice transition from my day to my night. It also makes the room feel more complete when I step into it during the day. It truly has made more of an impact than I ever that possible. Give it a try.
